At their regular Zoom meeting on Monday Irvine Seagate Rotary had a presentation from Deborah Robertson, West of Scotland speakers and fundraisers coordinator for the Guide Dogs Association. Guide Dogs have been providing assistance to the visually impaired for 90 years, and Deborah, who has very restricted vision, has had dogs herself for 18 years. There are over 8,500 Guide Dogs in the UK, and each costs around £60,000 over its lifetime but both the dog and the many weeks training of the person are free to those who need them.
Guide Dogs is a charity and always needs support. In addition to one-off donations and legacies, for from just £1 a week you can sponsor a puppy and get regular updates on its progress and see what a difference it can make to someone’s life. Deborah was an enthusiastic and motivational speaker, and after some questions and discussion with the audience, a Vote of Thanks was proposed by Alex McConnell.
Seagate’s activities are very restricted at present, but with the phased return of schooling it is hoped that the various Rotary schools competitions may be able to take place later in March.
