Irvine Seagate Rotary had an on-line Burns Supper on Monday. There was a good attendance including members from several other Rotary clubs in Scotland and the twin club of Orleans in France. President Hugh Hutchison chaired the evening, and members and guests contributed with readings and recitations... The haggis was piped in by Donald Mackenzie of the Glasgow School of Piping, and further music was provided by Janet Annand on the clarsach.
Whilst it was a bit unusual as members were at home with their own food and drink, the reach of the internet meant that they could enjoy top class musicians, especially the clarsach which is not particularly portable, and share with a much wider audience. However, hopefully next year it will be possible to have a more conventional event, and showcase once again the poetic and musical talent of our local schools and maybe sharing it more widely by Zoom.
