Anne Robinson, Head Teacher at Buttsbury Junior School where our second RotaKids Club is running, told Youth Chairman, Mike Sinclair all about the school’s involvement with annual Healthy Schools Week. It began on October 19. This year the children were learning how to create and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.
They took part in a range of activities that contributed to improving their own health and wellbeing but they also considered the great work that some charities do to support this too.
“To raise awareness and support two of these charities, Cancer Research UK and Young Minds, we held two fundraising events. With the RotaKids taking a leading role, we organised a sponsored running event to raise valuable funds for Cancer Research UK.”
“All children participated in a sponsored run where they were challenged to complete as many laps as they could within 10 minutes. There were some very rosy cheeks come the end of each classes’ ten minutes which was a testament to how much effort they put into completing the event.”
“As teachers, we were particularly impressed with the support and encouragement that children gave their peers to challenge each other and complete as many laps as possible.”
“Our second event was #HelloYellow day where children and staff could make a donation to wear something yellow to school.”
“This was widely supported across the school with a range of different interpretations to the relaxed uniform rules. This included wearing yellow boots, yellow umbrellas, yellow jewellery, yellow hair accessories and we even had a couple of very yellow bananas. “
“As always, we would like to thank the very kind generosity of our children’s friends and family for helping us to raise money to support these good causes.”
Total raised £8984.50 from the sponsored run and £233 from #HelloYellow.
