Prestwick Rotarians Are Updated on Whiteleys Retreat
Billy Herd updated us on Whiteleys Retreat, the Ayrshire Charity which offers respite to families affected by cancer, particularly children. It is shocking that throughout the UK, a child is diagnosed with cancer on average, every 2 hours. Billy is a great ambassador for Whiteleys Retreat, and is a well-known character in, and around Prestwick. The picture shows him raising money through Glasgow Kiltwalk.
Whiteleys Retreat is doing well, despite Covid restrictions. A three-bedroom mobile unit has been donated, and cottages refurbished. Two barns have been demolished to give better views. Staff have been furloughed, and the organisation relies heavily on willing volunteers. Most of the families seeking respite are from Ayrshire. Mike Kelly offered a well-deserved vote of thanks to Billy for an excellent update, and wished the Retreat all the best for the future.
