Irvine Seagate Rotary held their regular fortnightly Zoom meeting on Monday, with speaker Neville Shortt, an Alexander Technique teacher and advocate. This well known technique concentrates on improving posture and thereby relieving unnecessary muscle tension which can be a major source of back and other pain. Neville explained some of the exercise and relaxation methods and their benefits. Attending classes also has the added therapeutic effects of social contact and personal attention which also improve wellbeing. There were questions and it was noted that several other practices and regimes, such as Yoga, Bowen Technique and Pilates work in a similar manner with mind and body. A Vote of Thanks was proposed by Robert McMillan.
With social distancing the order of the day for the foreseeable future, the Seagate Rotary Christmas party night is to be organised as a Zoom meeting. Refreshments may be consumed, but no-one will have to buy a round of drinks. In February, the annual Burns Supper will be a similar event with everyone allocated a poetic or other contribution as a condition of attendance.
