On 16th October Club invited Mike Storr from Carlton (Nottingham) Rotary to join in the virtual meeting.
Mike gave an affectionate look at some of his favourite Music Hall laughter makers, explaining the origins of music hall in public houses that discovered providing facilities for performers boosted their customer numbers and their beer sales.
Names well known a generation or two ago - Robb Wilton, Stanley Holloway, Bernard Miles to name but a few – together with a contemporary performer, Pam Ayres- were characterised and examples expounded of their famous monologues delivered with appropriate intonation, much to the amusement of members.
Mike has given this humorous presentation (Masters of Mirth) over 475 times to Clubs - including Rotary Clubs- now with the advantage of virtual meetings throughout the UK. The speaker fee was donated to Mike’s preferred charity, Asthma UK., for which he has already collected over £27500.
