Irvine Seagate Rotary’s fortnightly Zoom meeting took place on Monday, when the guest speaker was William McGowan from the Crosshouse Children’s Fund. The Crosshouse Children’s Fund supports babies at the Crosshouse Maternity Unit, and is associated with and replicates in Ayrshire the work of the Glasgow Children’s Hospital. The fund has only been in existence for one year, but in that time they have raised £70,000, and they have recently provided 4 Hot Cots to the Unit at Crosshouse, enabling vulnerable young babies to receive extra care while avoiding them being separated from their mothers. In June, Seagate made a donation to the fund.
For Christmas gifts and cards supporting the fund, go to www.GlasgowChildrensHospitalCharity.org and help this worthwhile cause.
Seagate Rotary is still investigating ways to support the Poppy Scotland appeal, and other charity and community events while complying with the restrictions imposed by Covid19.
For a bit of good news, it was declared last week that Africa is officially Polio free. This is the result of many years of work and fundraising by many major organisations including Rotary International who were among the instigators and founders of the movement to eradicate Polio, back in the 1980’s.
