Congratulations to our contest winner Alexander Pryde who claims first prize finishing with a £18,645 gain. Second place goes to Stewart Morgan and third is long time leader, Hansen Low. Beers Drunk secured the wooden spoon with another 3.5% drop in the last three days of the month and no doubt glad that he is not looking at an actual loss of £18,916!

The final day of trading in our FTSE 100 competition showed the index drop another 31 points to close at 5866.10. The FTSE 100 competition has been a real education with lessons in economics, politics, foreign exchange, commodities, share dealing and probably gambling.

We hope that you have enjoyed the journey and for the 76 (exactly half our entrants) whose portfolios are less than what they started with a stark demonstration why investors are always warned that share prices can drop as well as rise.

Markets on our final day held steady following a tense US election debate. President Donald Trump repeatedly interrupted his Democratic rival Joe Biden in the Cleveland debate.

News that the UK gross domestic product (GDP) is estimated to have contracted by 19.8% in Quarter 2 did little to help the market which squirmed at the largest quarterly contraction in the UK economy since quarterly records began in 1955.

There was a late revival in banking shares and from Diageo but Fresnillo made gains to ensure it ended the quarter with the best gain possible, an impressive 66.9%.

Best performers were those holding Diageo shares - Dougal the Cockapoo, George Primrose and Cyril U James - with a 5.1% increase since the weekend. Beers Drunk was the loser of the week with his holding, wholly in BP, creating another -3.5% result.
