A record breaking Rotary Foundation Global Grant will fund initial medical equipment on the world’s largest purpose built charitable hospital ship.
$1.125 million dollars has just been approved from the Rotary Foundation enabling Rotary and Mercy Ships to fund a brand new state of the art CT scanner and other vital medical equipment onboard the Global Mercy which launches next year.
The Global Mercy is the largest purpose built NGO hospital ship and will help treat people throughout West Africa.
Rotary has been in partnership with Mercy Ships since 2006 and monies raised by 100’s of Rotary Clubs in the UK and overseas including our Club, will help to transform the lives of literally 1000’s of the world’s most poor and needy who would otherwise be without hope.
The ship will reduce the surgical backlog in developing countries whilst providing training and mentoring to increase local medical skills and renovating local facilities in each of the countries the hospital ships visit.
