Boot, Craft and Produce Fair 6th September 2020

An early morning rain shower did not deter the eager stallholders who arrived to set up at the second Rotary Boot, Craft and Produce Fair on the Martello Fields on 6th September.

The early clouds dispersed, and the clear blue sky attracted a steady flow of interested members of the public to view the offerings provided by the 58 stalls.  Indeed, as the limit to the number of stalls was reached, unfortunately some late arrivals had to be turned away as there were no spaces available.  One enterprising late stall holder set himself up in the car park adjacent to the Martello Tower hoping to make some sales.

One consequence of all the spaces for stalls being filled, was that discussions were held with Seaford Town council and it was accepted that at the fair on 27th September the number of stalls could increase to 70 as well as the Rotary stall.

The limit of 150 members of the public at any one time permitted at the fair was reached and as a result a queue formed and those in the queue were not permitted into the fair until someone left.  Signs were erected requesting members of the public to wear a face covering and although not everyone consistently wore a mask or a visor, a good proportion of those attending complied with the request.

In addition to stalls offering items often found at these Boot Fairs there were stalls offering plants, homemade conserves, cards, clothes, jigsaws and other children’s toys, tools, jewellery, crockery and collectables, as well as sporting items including lawn bowls woods, fishing rods and golf clubs.

There were also stalls manned by charities who were hoping that the opportunity would enable them to raise some much-needed funds.  In addition to the Seaford Rotary stall, Martello Rotary were selling their 2021 Seaford Community calendar, The Newhaven, Peacehaven & Seaford Lions Club and the Seahaven branch of the Royal Society of St. George were also manning stalls hoping to add to their coffers.
