17/8/20 ROTARY ZOOM MEETING

We were delighted to welcome Sarah Garcia from 3000 miles away as she was in Washington DC.  This maybe a Rotary record!

Sarah works for The GAO in Washington which stands for the Government Accountability Office.  The GAO is an independant office and is accountable to Congress and not the Trump administration.  They get involved in lots of projects but at the moment Sarah's focus is primarily related to Covid 19.  There is a Federal response to Covid but the individual responsibility comes down to each State and these policies can vary widely, which makes communication difficult with over 50 states.

Sarah showed us a fake video with lots of fake news to illustrate part of the communication problem they face.  Fundermentally the United States of America have much the same problems as we have here in the UK and similar solutions but it was great to hear this from Sarah working (mainly from home) in the heart of Washington.  Sarah answered all Rotarians questions succinctly.  We all felt very priveledged to have listened to such a professional young lady in the political capital of the USA.
