Club Donate £2,000 to two local charities in response to COVD-19 Pandemic

We are pleased to announce that our members are continuing to help people and groups, locally and internationally during the Covid-19 pandemic and recently donated £2,000 to two local charities.

Hospice Isle of Man and IoM Foodbank (Southern Hub) have both received a £1,000 donation each to support the excellent work they continue to deliver on behalf of the local community.

Judy Matthews from Southern Foodbank said: -

 “The team at the Southern Hub of the IOM Foodbank are extremely grateful for the support of Rushen & Western Mann Rotary especially in these difficult times. Food donation levels have greatly reduced during Covid19, at a time when demand for our services has risen considerably. We are currently supporting 27 families in the south, and every week are having to buy food and cleaning materials to supplement what is donated.”

Hospice Isle of Man’s Chief Executive, Anne Mills said;

“We are so very fortunate that The Rotary Club of Rushen and Western Mann have generously supported our Back Home Box initiative, which gives us the opportunity to continue to help many more vulnerable people in our community.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank The Rotary Club of Rushen and Western Mann for their compassionate gesture; it is by working together in partnership that we can achieve extraordinary things for the people of our Island, and your generous funding really has enabled us to continue the important work we do.”

Hospice was one of the founders of ‘Compassionate Isle of Man’ and amongst other initiatives they are assembling and delivering ‘Back Home Boxes’.

Wendy Smith, Lead for Compassionate Isle of Man said:

“These boxes are delivered to everyone who is returning home after spending at least 72 hours in hospital and who are living alone. This entails £10.00 of food items including tea, coffee, milk, sugar, butter, biscuits, and a loaf of bread. We have received some really heart-warming feedback, with one lady saying “I had a wonderful box given to me which took away the worry about shopping, I can’t thank you enough.” The aim is to make up 100 boxes. We are absolutely delighted to receive such generous funding from The Rotary Club of Rushen and Western Mann, which will enable us to continue to provide these much-needed boxes within our community.”

 Rotary Club of Rushen & Western Mann president John Lindon has added “During lockdown our Rotary members have not been able to attend our weekly fellowship meetings so with the money we have personally been saving, members decided to donate this money to support local worthy causes. Being able to assist both Hospice and the Foodbank during this period of so much anxiety has illustrated our Rotary moto of Service above Self”.
