Billy Herd is a well-known figure around Prestwick and is trustee of Whiteleys Retreat. He gave an excellent update on progress over the past two years. Whiteleys is a modified farm located by Alloway. The Retreat provides therapeutic short breaks for children, young people and their families, with cancer and life-altering illnesses. It was set up by a group of volunteers, following the closure of The Malcolm Sargent House in Prestwick in 2016.

Volunteers are vital to success, since the Retreat has only two full-time staff. The local community has offered immense support, and families staying in the cottages can enjoy free trips to many local attractions. Fundraising is constant, and anyone with ideas is most welcome to get involved. Email info@whiteleyesretreat.com for further contact with this wonderful organisation, supporting families in need. Debby Broughton-Hay offered a hearty vote of thanks to Billy Herd for his very informative talk.
