Young Photographer 2020

Report of the Club Round at The Bewdley School

A record number of 141 entries were received for the Club round of the 2020 Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland Young Photographer competition which took place at Bewdley School on 13th February.

There were two age groups competing, intermediate for 11 to 13 year olds and Senior for 14 to 18 years. The competition aims to encourage young people to experiment with photography and express their ideas by the interpretation of a topic through the medium of photography.

The subject this year was ‘Through my Eyes’ and the judging team of Colin Hill, Bob Hill and Terry Livesey, a local professional photographer and Bewdley School governor, did not have an easy task deciding which entries should go forward to the District round of the competition. In the Senior section overall winner was Ella Young with Runner Up place to Christian Thomas and Best Individual Photograph winner was Julia Tomalak.

In the Intermediate section overall winner was Pax Newman with Runner Up place awarded to Eleanor Gillett and Best Individual Photograph to Isobel Horton.

Bewdley Mayor, Councillor John Byng, kindly presented the certificates and prizes to winners in the Intermediate section whilst Bewdley Club President Elect, Graham Bullock, presented the certificates and prizes to the Seniors.

Well done to all the competitors and thank you to the staff at Bewdley School whose enthusiasm and support was invaluable. Thanks also to our judges and to Bob Hill and David Rees for their work in organising this year’s very successful event.
