Kirkcudbright Academy -Action Enterprise

Action Enterprise, a day devoted to business run by Kirkcudbright Rotary for senior students at Kirkcudbright Academy on Tuesday 19 November.  The morning consisted  of short talks from three speakers with careers in business and the afternoon to the students competing with their plans to address four local challenges.

Mid-morning madness was provided with a purpose, to demonstrate the principle of 'Plan, Do, Review' .  Each team was tasked with finding the quickest method of getting their whole team through a hoop.  An added difficulty was the hoops were made from ties (complements Paul Tebay).

Many thanks to our speakers Chris Walker, proprietor and chef at Selkirk Arms Hotel, Kirkcudbright,  Richard Haslam-Jones, marine engineer and Richard Thompson, architect. Between them they covered many of the challenges and opportunities of running an enterprise, from costing and leadership to environmental impact.

Starting with an early working lunch the student teams were set a local challenge around which to plan an enterprise.  Then to present this to the Kirkcudbright Rotary Den, consisting of Richard Haslam-Jones, Anne Halliday, Derek Smith and Chris Ingram.  Winning and participation certificates were presented by Alex Kinnell, President Kirkcudbright Rotary.

As always very many thanks are due to the team of Rotarians who helped make this a possibility, to the cooperation from Richard Boyce, Business Studies teacher, janitors and Nicky Poland and her kitchen team at Kirkcudbright Academy.
