Irvine Seagate Rotary’s speaker on Monday was Chris Bysouth, who is Ayrshire Group Coordinator or the Police Scotland Youth Volunteers. An initiative started in Cumnock, at Dumfries House, some 6 years ago, there are now 40 groups active throughout Scotland.
The North Ayrshire group meets weekly at Irvine Royal Academy. It is not a police recruitment organisation, but encourages ;young people aged 13 to 18 to build confidence and is an opportunity for them to take part in voluntary community activities.
Run by volunteers, it gives them opportunities to understand the role of the police and gain citizenship, leadership and other skills such as first aid, and generally enhance their personal development and employability. Chris answered questions about the organisation, and a Vote of Thanks was proposed by Ian Dickson
