On Wednesday, a team from Seagate Rotary took part in a Rotary district quiz in Ardrossan, along with 20 other teams from the area. They managed a respectable score of 75% despite several instances where the person with the right answer was outvoted by the other members of the team. However, it was all in good spirit, and not having won the event they will not have to organise it next year.
Arrangements are in hand for volunteers to collect for the Poppy Scotland appeal at Tesco and Sainsbury’s on the first two weekends in November.
Speaker on Monday was Audrey Mutongi, from Glasgow, who founded the No 1 Be-Friending Agency in the city. This is a not for profit social organisation coordinating volunteers to befriend, one to one, mainly elderly people who may be isolated or lonely in the community. They also arrange weekly group tea parties and social events to the same purpose. An associated group, the No 1 Care Agency, provides professional carers giving live-in 24 hour care and support. Audrey spoke with enthusiasm, and answered questions.
