Our newest Club Woburn Sands & District recently made a donation of £1,000 to the Milton Keynes Night Shelter. Here is a short piece by John Fulton about the work of the Night Shelter.
Thank you to all our overnight venues for offering your facilites: St Andrews’ Baptist Church, Loughton Baptist Church, Newport Pagnell Baptst Church, Netherfeld Chapel, New Life Church, The Oak Tree Centre, Stony Stratord Community Church, St George’s, MK Christan Foundaton, Christ the Vine, Holy Cross Church, St Mary’s and Whaddon Way Church.
It has been the busiest year for us yet. We have accommodated 114 individuals
(99 men and 15 women), and assisted 66 into longer term accommodaton
(some of whom didn’t need to stay in the shelter). This compares to 69 accommodated and 40 moved on last season.
Our welfare team has been able to help people more swifly this year, so we
have seen a greater turnover at the shelter, thanks in part to the
Council’s Housing First policy which has been in place since May. We
have assisted 10 guests
into employment opportunites and are grateful to Kuehne + Nagel who is
partnering with us to provide jobs for guests who are ready to rebuild
their lives.
