On
9th July a presentation was made to Barbara Foster who spoke to Club
about her walking between all the 42 Cathedrals in England - over 2,000
miles. She walked on behalf of her charity Freedom from Torture and
President Robert Addleman presented her with a cheque for her efforts.
Two new members were inducted on 10 July - Lisa Scarlett and Jeannie Addleman, followed by Peter Hebden, our Deputy Mayor being inducted on 17 July. A furter two new members were inducted on 24th July, they are a husband and wife team, David and Brigitte Houghton (but both very capable in their own right, as both IT experts).
The Club enjoyed an amazing day out to Panshanger Park, now a historic site and it has just been restored as a nature reserve. These are the remains of the Orangery - the main house has been pulled down. In the park can be found the oldest maiden (unpollarded) Oak in Britain, which has been here since the times of Elizabeth I...
An excellent talk on 10 July by Ann Chappell
The inventor of Laundreez (a portable wash system – take it to your
hotel or tent !) told us about where her invention originated and the
reality of bringing it into the real world.
