Our visit to the Towers Petanque Club in South Weald could become an
annual event ,it appears.
Twenty three came along on
the 29th,taking the place of
one of our monthly ‘informal’ meetings. And this included five members from KHV. Chairman Michele
ensured we got the pronunciation right– Its Paytonk.
So now you know.
As usual
we were
playing
for the
JOE
GRANT
ROSE
BOWL. Joe joined us approximately three years after
our inauguration, and like Ian, became heavily involved
in all things Rotary, rapidly becoming President, and
seemingly destined for District Governor at some point.
However, one night after a Rotary committee meeting
he was driving home, when he was involved in a head on
collision on the straight mile alongside Hanningfield reservoir.
So, on a more cheerful note, the evening was
highly enjoyable. Twenty one of our number
played at least one game, and the knockout
contest resulted in past winner Gill, and
Jackie Smith (KHV) v. Lindesay and myself
(IRC). By this time those eliminated had retired to the club house to enjoy the sandwiches provided, and some very cheap liquor.
Thereafter, most of them did not re-appear
for the final. I was so glad for that, as
Lindesay and I lost-and by a fair margin.
Well
done KHV.
IRC needs to win this trophy back next year!
