Rotarian Gregor speaks to Prestwick Rotary Club members

Gregor Purdie has transferred from Castle Douglas Rotary Club to join Prestwick Rotary Club. He now lives in Ayr and has returned to his roots, since he moved to Ayr at a very young age, having been born in Dumfries. He studied medicine in Edinburgh, and qualified as a doctor in 1978. He trained in Dumfries, before becoming a GP in 1983.

His medical career has been very socially-minded and progressive, and he founded the Castle Douglas Day Centre for the Elderly. He spoke with conviction about the pro's and con's of being a GP, including the difficulties of recruiting sufficient doctors to work in a rural town like Dumfries. His specialisms are chronic pain treatment and M.E. and although retired, he is still involved at a policy-making level, passing on his many years of medical experience.

Prestwick Rotarians are delighted to have Gregor Purdie as a member of our Club, and Rotarian Mike Kelly offered him a hearty vote of thanks for an excellent talk.
