The Funday at Shortlands station to raise money for CASPA and Valley School was a great success. It was opened by Graham Cole (of "The Bill") at midday in perfect weather. Attractions featured a bouncy castle, archery, a dog show, a fire engine and police van to explore, a plant stall, lots of raffle prizes, a variety of food and an impromptu water pistol fight. Games included hook the duck, apple bobbing, splat the rat and wet sponge pillory.
Our own Rotary Beckenham stall had a devilishly difficult ball and cup game, woodland animals to assemble and a unicorn raffle. We also took the opportunity to raise the profile of Rotary and recruit swimmers for our Swimalong on 29th September at West Wickham Pool.
Our efforts raised £235 for CASPA and a book stall, run by Tricia, wife of one of we Rotarians, raised another £32.In total, over £4,000 was raised for charity, thanks to the hard work put in by Denise (at Shortlands station) and her team.
