Talk by Rotarian Debby Broughton-Hay
Prestwick Rotarians were treated
to a talk on marketing from in-house Rotarian Debby Broughton-Hay. Debby
has a degree in marketing, and has worked as a marketing and IT
consultant, so is well-placed to pass on her expertise. A blind-tasting
test using chocolate
buttons was fun, and used to explain the benefits and pitfalls of
market research.
As marketing techniques are becoming ever more sophisticated, with the accumulation of vast amounts of information, we should be wary of what personal details we are giving out. Well-researched psychology is used to sell us goods, probing weaknesses in human nature to increase product demand. Debby laced her talk with funny personal anecdotes, mainly around her own eccentric family members.
Rotarian Stephen Cooper, pictured with Debby, gave a hearty vote of thanks for a very entertaining, informative talk.
back This section details the weekly talks at the club and have ranged widely from mindfulness to charity work, health, model making, favourite objects, music and gardening.
