On Sunday, Seagate Rotary ran the bottle stall at the SANDS gala day in Eglinton Park. The stall raised over £350 for SANDS. This Friday, a group of Rotarians and friends are going for an evening at Ayr Races. Some optimistically view this as a money making exercise, but others are more realistic. Seagate will be taking a stall at the 4th Port Gala on Low Green in August.
Speaker at Monday’s meeting was Jackie Wilson, a development officer with the Boys Brigade in Scotland. Jackie talked with enthusiasm on the importance of the Boys Brigade in developing young people, and on her role in assisting groups, particularly in disadvantaged areas, to achieve their full potential. There are nearly 400 Church of Scotland churches in Scotland with BB Companies, but as with all voluntary organisations, it is becoming increasingly difficult to get sufficient numbers of adult helpers. Jackie answered questions, and a Vote of Thanks was proposed by Ian Dickson.
