Unofficial Poppy Walk - June 2019

The 11th Unofficial Poppy Walk, to raise money for the Royal British Legion, took place on 2nd June 2019

The 11th Unofficial Poppy Walk

The walk took place Sunday 2nd June, raising money for the Royal British Legion.

We used maps given to us by the Legion, leftover when last year's official Poppy Walk was held in July. This year teams started at Paternoster Square by St Paul’s, having collected maps and final instructions. The map contained 20 questions to answer en-route. The aim was to get the most answers right in the quickest time.

From Paternoster Square the circular route went around St Paul’s then headed for London Wall via Cheapside. Looping back around the Old Bailey, it continued along Fleet Street, though the Inner Temple to the Victoria Embankment and Westminster Bridge. Next, along Whitehall and Trafalgar Square for the return leg along the Strand and Fleet Street again, finishing at Pasternoster Square.

Most teams were Rotarians but there were a few others, notably our chums from Wheels & Wheelchairs and Easy Saturday Skate. The winners were from ESS, completing the route in just two hours 31 minutes. Well done Joe and Andy.
Some teams couldn't make the date but are doing the walk independently.

In total, almost £300 will be raised for this year's Poppy Appeal.
