Poppy Collection - 2019

Rotary Beckenham has organised the Poppy collection in Beckenham on behalf of the Royal British Legion since 2014, having assisted increasingly since 2004. During that time the collection has increased at least tenfold.

This year the collections took place between Saturday 26th October and Monday 11th November. Collection tins and poppies were distributed to many premises throughout the borugh, with the main individual collections at supermarkets, railway stations and Beckenham High Street. Rotarians put in 600 hours preparing the poppy boxes, delivering them to 380 collection points in the town, later gathering them in to count and bank.

Customers at Tesco donated about £7,500 and schools in the area raised over £5,000. Our two highest individual collectors each collected over £1,000.

On 3rd November Rotarians were collecting at Crystal Palace Football Club. Ten Beckenham Rotarians and friends were at the football ground and the local and Leicester City supporters gave £1,500, which was topped up by £500 from CPFC. Unfortunately, Palace lost to Leicester City, two nil.

Rotary Beckenham's Poppy Appeal campaign has closed now and we have collected over £40,000 from the generous people in the borough. This isn't the final total but it already exceeds last year's record of £37,954. Thank you to all those who helped raise money for the Royal British Legion, especially the team working long hours at "Poppy HQ"

Individual collectors usually agree to a two hour period, but shorter times can be arranged and all support is greatly valued and appreciated. For all this to work we need collectors. If you would like to help, or would like to find out more, please contact Bill Fairhall at bill@curiousferret.com, or telephone 020 8460 6718.
