SCHOOL EXCHANGE

Last Thursday Anthony Tuffery and I flew out to Norway to meet with our friends from Gamlebyen Rotary Club who have identified a school in their home town of Fredrikstad which wishes to set up a student exchange with Kirkcudbright Academy.

We met with a number of the Gamlebyen Rotarians on both Thursday and Friday evenings, both events hosted by very good friends of our Club, Ottar and Solfrid Weel.

On Friday we visited to Kvernhuset School where we met several extremely keen teachers and we were given a grand tour of the school by four really enthusiastic students who were amongst the thirty students who had already put their names down to take part in the proposed exchange!

Kvernhuset is an amazing school built in the forest. It describes itself as anenvironmental school with hybrid ventilation, natural materials, area-efficient plans and good daylight conditions. Most of the students cycle to school! It will in my opinion make a wonderful partner school for an exchange visit.

This is now up to the schools to organise a first exchange visit. visit. Dates in early February are being considered for this.

Additionally, at the Friday evening party, Gamlebyen Rotary Club President Dag Stromseter was present and he sent his best wishes to President Gordon. He also sent a warm invitation to any members of our Club who might like to visit his Club at the end of May or in early June. President Gordon will respond to this most kind invitation very shortly,
