Watford Rotary Club celebrated its 95th year in style and were joined by our friends from Nancy Majorelle Rotary Club, France. We started our celebrations with a wine and cheese party held in the very impressive council rooms at Watford Town hall on the Friday and on Saturday, a black tie dinner was held at the beautiful Sandy Lodge Golf Club.
We treated our French guests to a traditional British meal of roast beef and Yorkshire pudding with all the trimmings (with wine of course) and to say thank you for our hospitality, Isabelle Baumann, Nancy Majorelle's President presented our President Tim Cox with a huge green frog. Try as he could, kissing it didn't turn it into a beautiful princess, so disillusioned, he will just have to contend with looking at it at home. Many friendships were rekindled and new ones made, as our French guests stayed with their Watford hosts in their homes.
We were honoured by the attendance of many dignitaries including Brenda Batten, Mayor of Hertsmere, Norman and Mavis Twyrwhitt, Freemen of Watford, Debbie Hodge, Rotary GB&I President, David Ford, District Governor, Cheryl Law Past District Governor and Rabi Martins, Area District Governor. We look forward to our 96th year, confident in the fact that through friendship and hard work, Watford Rotary will continue to support the local community and our charities.
