Rotary Club of Beausoleil (France) invited us to join their “Life Straw” project at our twinning visit to Ovada (Italy. Following club members’ enthusiastic support of this initiative, Malcolm Acors, our International Chairman, has told Roselyne Tricetti and Phillipe Tricetti, Beausoleil president and immediate past governor District 1730 respectively, that we will be donating the €1,180 requested.
“The Billericay club congratulates you on what is a great project and initiative. I am sure it will bring health benefits to many people in great need.” Phillipe Tricetti replied: “We are very happy with this decision and we thank you and your club for your participation.”
The project buys simple large plastic straws with an integral filter system which allows water to be drunk directly from muddy or non-potable water by purifying it of bacteria and other pests.
Already proven in major natural disaster areas, earthquakes, floods etc. it provides access to drinking water for sustainable development – MiddleEast and Africa, and helps prevent cholera, typhoid and dysentery from polluted water.
Cost €25 each, reducing to €6 for an order of 1000.
Request: €6000 between the “twinned” Rotary clubs to gain the 80% reduction in cost
Initial order of 1000 has already been paid by Beausoleil.
The whole project was engineered by Roselyne who asked all representatives of the five clubs attending Ovada – Basildon, Alba, Karlshamn, Beausoleil and ourselves - to discuss and agree the proposal at their clubs. Basildon agreed immediately (It had already raised money for a Water Aid project. Now we are on board too.
