British military firearms

Prestwick resident Allan Dunlop gave an explosive talk to The Rotary Club of Prestwick on British military firearms of the 18th and 19th Century. He brought along a variety of bayonets, pistols, rifles and firelocks, all dated prior to 1860.

All are in perfect working order, but he would never fire them. His great pleasure is in collecting, and adding to his collection, which has taken 20 years to assemble. Guns have had a profound effect on the changes in society since 1499, when the existence of firearms was first noted. Many questions followed such an excellent, informative talk, and Lindsay Smith gave an appreciative vote of thanks.
