Llandudno Rotary was pleased to host Alison Blott at its meeting on 19^th February at Cae Mor Hotel.

Alison spoke about the work of her organisation, the St Vincent de Paul - SVP in the UK, and affectionately known as “Vinnie” in Australia

Vincent de Paul CM (1581 to 1660) was a French Catholic priest who dedicated himself to serving the poor and was canonized in 1737. He was renowned for his compassion, humility and generosity and is the patron of all works of charity.

Today’s charity that bears his name was founded in 1833 and today has a presence worldwide, notably in France, the UK, US, India, Australia and New Zealand

Alison described the work of the charity shop that she manages in Colwyn Bay on behalf of SVP and of the work it is able to fund. The overarching principle of “turning concern into action” inspires their work, which encompasses meaningful and long term befriending;  visits to people in their homes, in the hospital and in care homes on a regular basis and offering additional practical support such as food, furniture or financial help where needed. They also organise trips and events for older and isolated people.
