'Cycling without Age Scotland'

Talk by Lorna Walker

'Cycling without Age Scotland'

Lorna Walker was our Rotary guest to tell us about trishaws and the new initiative 'Cycling without Age Scotland'. The aim of trishaws is to tackle social isolation and promote the well-being of the elderly.

She is a district nurse who is very involved in this initiative which already operates in over 40 countries. A trishaw is an electric powered bike, and the objective is to have two trishaws operating along Prestwick esplanade.

So money needs to be raised since the trishaws cost about £7500 each. Trained volunteers are needed since it takes 20 volunteers to support one trishaw, because 2 riders are required, one on an ordinary bike in front. It’s all good fun - like a fresh air gym! For further details

Lorna gave an excellent talk and there were many questions. Richie Cameron gave an appreciative vote of thanks. The picture shows Club President Edith Sterrick, guest speaker Lorna Walker, and Richie Cameron.
