​Letchworth Howard takes children on a magical theatre treat

Letchworth Howard Rotary Club gave 22 underprivileged local children a magical theatre adventure in January when it teamed with Home-Start, the charity that helps families with young children, to provide a visit to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, this winter’s pantomime at the Gordon Craig Theatre, Stevenage.

The children were accompanied by nine adults who, by all accounts, also had a great time.

Meanwhile, with all moneies now in, the club’s recent darts marathon evening raised just under £2,500 for Letchworth’s Garden House Hospice Care and other Rotary charities. The event, at the town’s Broadway Hotel on November 15, attracted some 70 participants playing in 13 teams across two sessions in a lively, fun-filled atmosphere.

Following its Christmas concert in December, in aid of North Herts Sanctuary for homeless people and Carers in Herts, with particular reference to young carers, and its Race Night on January 26 to help meet the costs of the pantomime visit, the club has two further big fund-raising events on the stocks.

First is its Bridge Drive at Letchworth Settlement on March 8, at which the Hospice will again be the principal beneficiary. More details and entry forms are available from Alan Fraser, Email: alanf@letchworthrotary.org.uk .

That is followed on March 30 by a grand Charity Quiz at St George’s Church Hall, Norton Way North, in aid again of Garden House Hospice Care and of Mary’s Meals, the charity that sets up school feeding programmes for children in some of the world’s poorest communities who would otherwise go without a hot meal. Tickets are a mere £14, which includes supper.
