Mid-Herts Rotary Senior Youth Speaks competition

Another brilliant evening with all the excellent presentations receiving loud applause from the audience. This gave the adjudicators a really hard task to select the teams to progress to the District semi-finals, but decisions were made.

On Tuesday 20th November Mid-Herts Youth Speaks competition evening saw 3 teams from Bishop’s Hatfield Girls’ school and 3 teams from Dame Alice Owen’s school entertain and enlighten us. The presentations involved topics such as ‘Why we should be taught about mental health and disabilities at a younger age’, ‘Does Academic success define your intelligence’, ‘How young is too young for a phone’ and ‘Should we have a four-day week‘ which were all very eloquently presented by the students.

However, the two Senior teams going forward to the District semi-final are, the winners, above, from Dame Alice Owen’s school whose presentation was ‘How to be Happy’ and runners-up from Bishop‘s Hatfield Girls’ school who’s presentation topic was ‘Why do we ignore certain conflicts’.

All the students did exceptionally well with their presentation and all are really winners. They will definitely benefit from their public speaking experience.

Mid-Herts Rotary Intermediate Youth Speaks competition

Mid Herts Rotary in the forefront again. Eight teams of young people from Bishop's Hatfield Girls' School and Dame Alice Owen's School competed for the Intermediate rounds of this exciting competition.

WGC Rotary President, Andy Forrow, congratulated all those taking part, describing them all as "Winners" - they have gained more experience of talking to groups of people on controversial subjects, giving each of them added life skills for the future.

Good luck to the teams that have progressed to the District Final round.
