The 24th October 2018 marked the 30th anniversary of the Rotary International Global Polio Eradication Initiatives formation and to celebrate this Royal Wootton Bassett and District Rotary Club planted 5000 crocus bulbs on Lyneham Green. The results will be seen in the spring of 2019 when a Rotary sign will be placed to mark the event.

Rotary International has been involved in raising money for the past 30 years to pay for vaccines to help eradicate the crippling disease Polio. The ULTIMATE GOAL of Rotary International, along with our partners, the World Health Organisation, UNICEF, U.S Centres for Disease Control and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, is to give children a polio free world.

In 1998 there were an estimated 350,000 cases of polio in 125 countries, but in 2017 there were only 22 cases diagnosed in the world.  To date, Rotary clubs world wide have raised over 1.2 billion dollars for this great cause.
