On Thursday evening a wreath was laid at the Menen Gate at the Last Post Ceremony, by Rtn. President Roger, Rtn. Julian Murch and Past President Rtn. Chris Smith. This ceremony has been performed every evening at 8pm since 1926.
The following day we visited our twin club at their weekly lunch meeting in Lauwe, a small town near Menen, where President Roger did his best with the Flemish language!
After lunch we visited a land art installation at Schore, near Ypres where the artist, Koen Vanmechelen, has laid 600,000 sculptures representing the total sacrifice made by Belgium in the First World War. The installation is called CW X RM, ComingWorldRememberMe.
On Saturday morning, we visited the local market in Ypres to buy garlic and chocolates before heading to the Euro Tunnel for our journey home. Another superb visit.
