APS Tour - 05/11/18

Weekly Press Report

Seagate Rotary’s subject on Monday was APS, antiphospholipid syndrome.  Phil Godfrey, from Solihull Rotary, has spent the last few years visiting Rotary Clubs throughout the UK to raise awareness and funds for more research into this autoimmune disease, sometimes known as sticky blood.  It affects up to 1% of the population and is a significant cause of miscarriage and other complications of pregnancy, and also of strokes and heart attacks, but can be controlled by medication.

So far Phil has raised over £75,000 to create an on-line GP learning module, and the charity APS Support UK provides research funding and support and information for those affected by APS.  This was a thought provoking talk, and after questions a Vote of Thanks was proposed by Ian Dickson.

Towards the end of the meeting, Sanchana was presented with the MPR Award which she had won at the recent Safari Supper.
