Charity Swimalong - Sept 2018

Swimmers attempt a marathon in support of BBC Children in Need

Charity Swimalong 2018

BBC Children in Need will benefit from the efforts of 35 swimmers who took part at the West Wickham Leisure Centre on Sunday 30th September in an attempt to complete a marathon swim within 3 hours. The result was tantalizingly close and the swimmers achieved a creditable 37 kilometers, (about 87% of a marathon) and their efforts have raised over £2,000 for the charity.

The event was organized by Rotary Club of Beckenham with the help and support of other clubs and local community organizations.

The Mayor of Bromley, Councillor Kim Botting, accompanied by her husband, graciously attended and awarded medals to the swimmers (including to our Distrct Governor, Brenda parsons) and then drew the winning raffle ticket for the giant Pudsey bear.

We are very grateful to the West Wickham Leisure Centre and to all our sponsors, whose generous support made this event possible.

Postscript - Children in Need Day - 6th December 2018 ... thanks to the raffle of the voucher from Prima Donna restaurant and the generous donation of further prizes, the final total raised is now in excess of £3,000.00.
