The exciting and wide ranging Wilfred Owen Festival is due to launch today.

The Mary Hignett Bequest Fund has supported this festival to enable poetry workshops by The Emergency Poet to be delivered to local Primary Schools.

Wilfred Owen Statue Unveiling

Saturday 20th October, 11am

Cae Glas Park, Oswestry SY11 1AP

The Wilfred Owen Statue will be officially unveiled at a ceremony in Cae Glas Park. The Wilfred Owen violin will play and Owen’s poetry will be brought to life through music and verse with the beautiful voice of soprano Natasha Day. The statue will be the only life sized one in honour of the soldier and war poet and is the work of local artist Tim Turner.

The statue will feature Owen in military uniform with a book and a pencil in hand. Words from his letters and poems will adorn the statue in the handwriting of local primary school children. There will also be live new poems written by pupils from The Marches School, Oswestry School, Lakelands Academy, Moreton Hall School and the Derwen College.

Work on the Wilfred Owen statue for festival unveiling in Oswestry's Cae Glas Park is on schedule for 20th October.
