CCL Visit Update - 13/08/18

Weekly Press Report

Irvine Seagate Rotary’s speakers on Monday were Michael Lafferty and Dasha Horban.  Michael is the Ayrshire coordinator for Chernobyl Children’s Life Line.  Each year the charity brings a group of children from Ukraine to Ayrshire for a month where they get long term health benefits from being away from some of the areas worst affected by the Chernobyl nuclear meltdown.

This year a group of ten, 10 – 12 year old girls are here for all of August.  Dasha, an English language teacher, is here as a coordinator and translator.  The children stay in pairs with host families for the month, and a full programme of visits and activities is provided.  Many local organisations, businesses and individuals are involved in helping with or sponsoring the children.  They will shortly be looking for host families for next year, as organisation has to start 9 months in advance to allow for hosts to be confirmed and allow time for the children to get their visas.

Chernobyl Children’s Life Line is on facebook, and also has a website www.ccll.org.uk/ayrshire  There were many questions and comments to Michael and Dasha, and a Vote of Thanks was proposed by David Cousar.
