Rotarians from Chelwood Bridge Rotary Club are visiting local Primary Schools and making presentations of the Rotary Illustrated Dictionaries to help encourage children to develop their literary skills.
The Dictionary 4 Life comprises 1,000 illustrations, 10,000 entries and 20,000 definitions printed in full colour on leaflet grade paper from a sustainable forest and contains 288 pages. One of the most positive aspects of being able to use a dictionary is that it helps autonomy and confidence in the learner - one of the core goals of education. It promotes books and the printed word, helping with homework and providing a valued reference work in the home.
Each dictionary is inscribed with the recipient’s name, making it a very personal gift that they can keep. There is even a page for friends to write messages, it is this personal touch which will encourage them to keep the book for years to come and learn from it. Each letter has its own coloured page to make it easier to look up words and the accompanying illustrations bring the book to life. Developing Literacy is a Priority of Rotary International all around the World and Chelwood Bridge Rotary Club have welcomed the opportunity to show our support for our local Primary Schools.
The pictures show pupils at Blagdon Primary School with there newly presented dictionaries. Chelwood Bridge Rotary Club is presenting dictionaries to more than 150 pupils in 10 schools this term.
