2018 Charity Day

A most satisfying and worthwhile Monday, July 2 when the Club entertained to lunch representatives of four major charities who received major donations from our successful Spectacular Soapbox Derby on May 7, 2018!

Grateful Charities

All profits from the Soapbox Derby go to charities supported by Rotary, and on  Monday, July 2 the Club entertained to lunch representatives of four of the charities receiving major donations from our successful Spectacular Soapbox Derby on May 7, 2018!  It is so satisfying and worthwhile to hand over money for good causes.

Four cheques of £5,000 each were presented by President Peter to representatives of Médecins Sans Frontières, Barrow Farm Riding for the Disabled, Chernobyl Children’s Life Line, and Little Havens Children’s Hospice.

With cheques already made to Rotary Foundation – End Polio Now and to local Schools, and other smaller donations, we have already donated over £26,000.

The response from the charities was generous.

Dee Anderson (Little Havens) posted on Facebook:

“Thank you so very much for the support given to Little Havens.  Looking forward to speaking to you in September.”

Anna Jordan (Médecins Sans Frontières) said:

“Ken had a wonderful time meeting your club on 2nd July and he is looking forward to returning to tell you more about his work with MSF.  Thank you so much. We are hugely grateful for your contribution”.

Matthew Craig-Greene of (Chernobyl Children’s Life Line) wrote:

“Our sincere thanks to the Billericay Rotary Club for their generous sponsorships, and the donation of £5,000 which will go so far in ensuring our efforts for these children will continue in the future”.

Dr Karen Lehner (Barrow Farm RDA) wrote:

“An especially big thank you for the most welcome cheque.  We really appreciate your support.  Without organisations like yours we couldn’t ‘make it happen’ for so many wonderful children and adults who have such challenging lives.”

Real Support

It was also an opportunity to entertain members of the other service clubs and to thank them for their help and advice with the Soapbox Derby.

Clubs represented at the award ceremony, and our guests for lunch, were:

  • Rotary Club of Mayflower Billericay (Dave Randall)
  • 41 Club (Tony Sprackling)
  • Billericay Lions (Derek Prior)
  • Gary Tilley (Round Table).

President Peter thanked every one of them "Without your help, it would NOT be possible to put on this event and raise all this money for charity
