On Friday 20th July President Les Sheppard attended the ‘Billericay in Bloom’ prize giving held at Canon Roche hall, to present the prizes for the class we had sponsored, which this year was again the ‘best back garden’ class.
First were the awards for the best school garden (won by Brightside Primary School) and best school vegetable garden (Buttsbury Infants School). Then came the individual children’s class, ‘best garden in a recycled container’, which was organised on a school by school basis. For each school the 3rd, 2nd and 1st place winners proudly went up to receive their trophies, followed by ‘highly commended’ medals for (I suspect all) other entrants.
The adult classes followed, including best shop, best front garden and, our class, best back garden. All this time, a slide show cycled through pictures of the prize-winning entries. Finally, all the prize winners were called back for a combined photograph (though unfortunately two of the school groups had left by this point) and the Town Clerk thanked all the sponsors of the various classes for their support of the event and looked forward to another successful competition next year.
