Protective Security Policing

Prestwick Rotarians were delighted to have Bob Smith as a guest speaker. Bob has recently retired from protective security policing, including a spell at Prestwick Airport as Police Commander. Bob enjoys public speaking and was one of three so far to have responded to a call for speakers to come forward to talk at Rotary. Bob gave a wide-ranging talk on many aspects of airport security, including the severe threat level we are now accustomed to.

The biggest threats are from insiders who have special access, and may be unscreened. If these people are compromised because of addiction or blackmail for example, then security could be at risk. Drink and drugs are problems, especially the nuisance caused by drunken passengers. Bob certainly had an exciting and interesting career and he remains passionate about airports and planes. Unbridled enthusiasm for the subject always makes for a great talk, and Bob did not disappoint.
