This week’s speaker at Irvine Seagate Rotary was John Stewart, a Rotarian from Renfrew, promoting the Paisley Beer Festival. Now in its 32nd year, this well established festival is in Paisley Town Hall from 25 to 28 April and attracts over 8,000 visitors. John is a long established member of the Campaign for Real Ale, and at one time had his own brewery, Strathalbyn, so was able to talk with authority on the many and varied local, national and international ales that will be on offer.
Rotary is partially sponsoring the event, and will be fund raising for Rotary’s Polio eradication programme, so the sales pitch was particularly to seek volunteers to help run the Rotary stall. This proposition, paid at a nominal rate of one half pint for each hour of service, and very accessible by public transport, seemed quite attractive to some members. John answered questions, and a Vote of Thanks was proposed by Andy Slater.
