Penrith Rotary Swimathon 2019
This year’s Penrith Rotary Swimathon was once again well attended and took place over two Saturday evenings culminating on 2ndFeb 2019.
This year there were 34 teams in total, who once again represented a wide range of local community organisations. They came from a Swimming School, Primary schools, Cubs, Scout and Guide groups, Churches, Community Groups and many more besides.
As usual the teams ranged from 5 year olds just happy they could swim a length to athletes out to set new records, although no records were broken this year. It’s not about winning though, but taking part, having fun, and raising money to help others who are less fortunate. Many worthwhile charities, clubs and community groups benefit, and the participants have a great time while also raising money.
It is obviously too soon to give exact fundraising totals but initial estimates suggest that the teams, between them, may have raised about £4000 for their various charities. Penrith Rotary is not trying to raise money with this event, we charge just enough for team entries to cover the cost of the pool if we are fully subscribed. This event is, in effect, our gift to the community who we hope will continue to support it as they have done for 15 years now.
back The Rotary Club of Penrith invites you to enter a team in our Swimathon. This fun event is intended to provide you with an opportunity to raise funds for your own preferred charity, good cause, club or team – or for this year’s Rotary supported charities
