Our President Catherine, President Elect Phil, Junior Vice Richard with Bill, Lorna and Andy, attended the RGBI Conference between 6-8 April.
The speakers included the Rotary GB&I President Dennis Spiller, RI Director Brian Stoyel and RI President Ian Riseley, an Australian.
Other speakers during the weekend were Shaun Sawyer the Chief Constable of Devon & Cornwall Police, Angela Rippon OBE, Michael Zaffran CBE from the World Health Organisation.
On Saturday afternoon we were joined by HRH The Princess Royal, Princess Anne, who is herself a Honorary Member of the Elgin Rotary Club.
We also listened to Phil Bennett OBE, a member of the Welsh Rugby Hall of Fame; Liz Johnson, a Gold , Silver and Bronze medal holder at the Paralympics; Alex Ledger a past Blue Peter TV producer; and Chris Tarrant of Tiswas and Millionaire fame.
There was much talked about sustaining our efforts to keep supporting End Polio as the job is not yet finished and will continue for a few years more.
At the Annual Business Meeting the emphasis continues on Change including voting to change the roles of our National President and Director.
On the Friday evening after dinner we attended a show featuring a Welsh Choir, an illusionist and a three Man Singing Group.
On the Saturday evening there was a dinner with a Beach Party theme, see the photos! We were joined at our table by District 1100 DGE Joan Goldsmith, her husband David and two members of Bristol Rotary Club. Dancing continued until late with the 'A' Listers. The highlights of the Awards were the Young Citizens interviewed as always by Ellie Crisell from Tv and the winner of Young Musician Huw Boucher who played a Harp in a most remarkable way.
The Rotary Showcase was really good and we renewed contacts with Shelterbox, RISE, Water Survival Box, Guildford Rotary Eye Project, Rotary Shoebox, Roll Out The Barrel and picked up leaflets from quite a few more.
A weekend enjoyed by all and in many ways different from the District Conference a few weeks ago.
