Speaker at Seagate Rotary on Monday was Mrs Alison Crawford, head teacher at Irvine Royal Academy. Alison talked about the vision and values of the school, and how these are being implemented to continually raise the achievements of all pupils at the school and give them the skills and resilience that they will need to work in our ever changing society.
She gave examples of how staff, pupils, parents and community groups are working together to make the school an integral part and focus of the town. Having one wing of the school as part of the Ayrshire College gives the opportunity for students to take an unusually wide range of subjects, and the school roll is now up to 600 and is expected to rise again next year.
There were many questions about the school and the education system in general, and a Vote of Thanks was proposed by Jim Anderson.
Seagate’s Burns Night will be on 12 February, and the annual Sportsmen’s Dinner, the main charity fund raising event, will be on 23 February with speakers Frank McAvennie and Scott Glynn.
