As Santa’s main helpers, the Rotary Club of Leighton Linslade are delighted to announce that Santa had another bumper year.
It all began helping the Leighton Town Council with the switch on of their Christmas lights and once again we sponsored the lights on the Town’s Christmas Tree.
Santa however was determined not to appear just the once and the Club supported him as he spent 18 nights touring the streets of the parish bringing festive cheer to young and old alike. He also managed to squeeze in visits to Tesco and Morrison being received with smiles, cheers and singing wherever he went. Due to the heavy snow on the Sunday evening he had to reschedule his schedule making sure that as many people as possible got to meet him.
As Christmas Eve approached, Santa prepared for the 40th anniversary of the traditional carol singing on Leighton’s the High Street where over 4000 people saw the beginning of Christmas singing carols accompanied by the local Salvation Army band.
All of this activity resulted in the people of Leighton Linslade donating a record breaking figure of over £16,000 which will be distributed amongst the charities who helped Santa over the month and also will go towards the Club’s “Yes We Can” disability sports campaign.
