Four members of our club and their wives were delighted to attend the Rotary Club of Basildon Charter Night celebrating the 57 years of the Club, since it was founded in 1960. We were represented by President Peter and Wendy, President-Elect Les and Val, Immediate past-president Mike and Liz, and Secretary Ed and Margaret
The black-tie event was held at the Holiday Inn, Basildon, with nearly 50 people joining together to celebrate this milestone. The dinner was also an opportunity to collect funds in aid of “Children in Need”, with guests being “encouraged” to have their photos taken before the meal (see above) - for purchase in aid of this charity, and a separate collection being taken during the meal which raised over £150.
We always feel at home when we visit our fellow Rotarians in Basildon, not just because the club is only one year younger than ours, but also because we share so many objectives and twinning relationships with clubs in Italy, France and Sweden.
We were all made very welcome by our hosts, joint presidents Kevin Howard and Mike Barrett, and enjoyed the food, the company, the speeches and the speaker, Jacky Froggatt (a JP who often sits with our Patrick Rothon). Jacky spoke about her work and tested us all with real life examples which certainly challenged our preconceived views.
A thoroughly enjoyable evening out with friends and fellow Rotarians.back The Rotary Club of Billericay is part of the international Rotary movement of 1.2 million members and welcomes new members. It is a thriving club with an enjoyable social dimension.
